Dr Kozlowska completed her medical degree and PhD at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Moving to Australia, she finished her training working in a variety of tertiary and private hospitals in Brisbane including the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, Greenslopes Private Hospital, and Ipswich Hospital.
During her advanced training Jowita was the recipient of a GMATS scholarship and as part of this undertook medical outreach clinics in indigenous communities throughout remote Far North Queensland. The opportunity to manage indigenous patients in under resourced areas was a particularly important experience in her career, and from this she learned skills in handling cultural differences to established rapport and improve her patient’s outcomes. This was where her passion for managing metabolic syndrome developed as the prevalence of obesity in indigenous communities is high.
On becoming a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2018, Dr Kozlowska was appointed Staff Specialist and later Visiting Medical Officer at Lismore Base Hospital where she is currently practicing. Jowita has a strong focus not only on clinical skills but also on providing education. In 2019 she was the recipient of the award for outstanding contribution to medical student learning from the University Centre for Rural Health, Lismore.
Dr Kozlowska also provides inpatient services at St Vincent’s Private Hospital, Lismore. Here she provides inpatient perioperative care to the surgical patients. She admits patients with various medical problems.
