Dr Stephen White – Core Specialist Group Founding Member

Dr Stephen White is the founding member of the Core Specialist Group with an inherent passion for providing superior multidimensional healthcare solutions – including general surgery - for a range of clinical conditions.

Qualifications

Dr White graduated from the University of Queensland and trained at the Royal Brisbane Hospital before travelling overseas to work as a senior registrar in France, Scotland and England.

As co-director of the John Flynn Colorectal Centre, Dr White has practised at the John Flynn Hospital since 1995 providing advanced treatment in colorectal and pelvic pathology services to achieve exceptional patient outcomes.

Professional Memberships

Dr White assumed the role as Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgery in 1991 and has held membership for the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand since 2004. Dr White has been a highly regarded member of the Gastrointestinal Society of Australia since 2002.

Positions

As the visiting medical officer in the Tweed Byron Health Network, consultant colorectal surgeon to the Tweed Hospital, and associate professor and head of the Department of Surgery at the Bond Medical School; Dr White is committed to raising the standard of healthcare available to his local community.

He oversaw the introduction of "keyhole" laparoscopic colorectal re-section as well as pioneering the treatment of faecal incontinence with sacral nerve stimulation. Dr White is a forward thinker in the medical field and his innovative philosophies led to him becoming one of the first practitioners to use Botox ® in the treatment of painful anal fissures. A treatment that has been presented internationally.

Additional Professional Activities and Contributions

With his wealth of specialised and extensive experience, Dr White has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and actively pursues new and ground-breaking avenues in clinical research.
